Xenophobia Timeline

Normalized xenophobia against Asians

Xenophobia against Asians have been going on for a long period of time, yet it seems that there is nothing done to prevent this. As early as 1882, the 10 year Chinese Exclusion Act discriminated against immigrated Chinese laborers who came to America seeking cheap job opportunities. The chinese were only 0.002 percent of the nation's population, yet Congress passed this act to maintain “white purity.” This timeline provides key highlights throughout American history showing the various Acts, Orders, and attacks to the Asian population from then till present time. Xenophobia against Asians should not and can not be normalized, and it is our duty to bring awareness and information to the public for this to stop.

  • COVID-19 pandemic 2020- outbreak of virus caused hundreds of racist attacks against asian americans for supposedly “bringing the virus to the country”.
